Shina Ansari is an Iranian politician and environmentalist with a PhD in Environmental Management. Born in 1974 in Tehran, she has dedicated her career to addressing urban environmental challenges, particularly air quality and pollution control. Starting her professional journey as an advisor at the Tehran Municipality’s Air Quality Control Center, she held several key technical and leadership roles in environmental management before being appointed Vice President of Iran and Head of the Department of Environment.
In 2024, Ansari published her memoir Gat-e Marizi (“Step of Illness”), sharing her personal battle with breast cancer. As a prominent environmental advocate, she emphasizes the importance of universal access to green technologies and financial support, highlighting how international sanctions have hindered Iran’s progress toward a green economy and renewable energy transition.
At COP29, Ansari called for environmental issues to be addressed beyond political differences and criticized sanctions that limit Iran’s participation in global climate efforts. She is also a passionate advocate for biodiversity conservation, urgently warning about the critically low population of Asiatic cheetahs in Iran, and calling for cross-agency cooperation to protect them.
