Jose Manuel Moller is the Founder and CEOof Algramo, a pioneering social enterprise that provides innovative contributions to the circular economy. Established in 2012, Algramo—which means“by the gram”—was created to reduce plastic waste and tackle the so-called“poverty tax,” the disproportionate cost low-income communities face for packaged goods. Through its refill distribution systems, Algramo enables consumers to use their own containers, reducing single-use plastics while expanding access to affordable essentials across Chile and Latin America.
In addition to his entrepreneurial work, Moller serves as Vice-Chair of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Zero Waste, a global body that contributes to shaping sustainability policies and implementation strategies .
Moller’s leadership has earned him international recognition. In 2023, he was named a UNEP Champion of the Earth in the “Entrepreneurial Vision” category, theUnited Nations’ highest environmental honor, for his innovative solutions to reduce waste and promote sustainable consumption.
